ooking for a new island experience in the United States? If so, check out Crab Island! Crab Island is in Destin, Florida ( a few miles away from Fort Walton, Florida). I visited Crab Island for a few days and had a blast! I flew Nonstop from Newark to Fort Walton with Allegiant Airlines. This was my first time flying Allegiant Airlines and I had a wonderful experience (Check out my other blog post about my detailed experience with Allegiant Airlines).
After arriving at the airport, my friend and I decided to check out the area where Crab Island is located and as you can see, its a beautiful stretch of white sand. The Gulf water is beautiful. In fact, I felt like I was on a Caribbean vacation. The ambiance. The food. The people. I would definitely love to visit again.
I saw this hotel property and thought it was stunning! Destin, Florida is a great getaway for families, friends, or even solo trips! Everyone was so friendly and helpful! I would also like to mention that there are numerous outlet stores in Destin, Florida so if you like to shop, this place is definitely for you!
On our first day in Destin, we pretty much toured the area and decided on what activities we wanted to do as well as what restaurants we were interested in stopping by at. Well, Krispy Kreme is never a bad idea, right? We ended up eating seafood pretty much everyday. I was enjoying the moment so much that I did not take any pictures of our dinner/lunch. But honestly, you cannot go wrong with any seafood restaurant in Fort Walton/Destin, Florida!
Day two, we decided to go parasailing and visit Crab Island. Honestly, I was so excited to visit Crab Island, it was the main reason I visited Destin, Florida. We went through a local shuttle company and was on a shared boat with about 22 other people. The team was really nice and made sure we made it safely, as well as give us tips on what to do on the Island. If you are not too comfortable in water, don’t be afraid! The water is about five feet deep through Crab Island (I did notice that it was some shallow parts where the water was slightly higher).
This is where the Crab Island Shuttle Boats are. The boarding process was fast and efficient. We had roughly three hours on the Island, which I think is enough time to have fun.
You can purchase snacks, beverages, and even Ice Cream (Yes, there is a boat that sells Ice Cream)! There are a few places on Crab Island that offer float and water accessory rentals.
This was the beach, it was absolutely wonderful! The beach was so clean and the sand was so bright and soft. I didn’t want to leave! The beach has Cabanas to rent for about $25. Parking is a bit difficult to find (Especially on weekends), so if you are staying at a local hotel, I would recommend Uber/Lyft.
I am obsessed with French toast, so I googled the best French toast in Destin, Florida and found this hidden gem. It is called the Neighborhood Cafe. Very affordable, quick, and delicious!
Of Course, I ordered French Toast. But, their French toast is stuffed with a strawberry filling and it very tasty! To compliment my French toast, I ordered orange juice, bacon, and cheese grits.
On the last day, my friend and I went parasailing and had a blast! We paid about $100 for two people (including taxes etc), which I thought was a great deal! The crew was so fun and inviting.
Overall, this was such a wonderful experience. I will definitely revisit this place in the future. If you have the opportunity to visit this beautiful place, please do so! It is budget friendly and a perfect summer getaway! <3
